Construction
This 6-core single-mode armoured tactical fibre cable is built in five layers around the fibres. Tight-buffered G.657A fibre gives flexibility and bend tolerance. A stainless steel spiral armour tube resists impact and external pressure. A braided layer and aramid tensile yarn carry pulling loads while keeping the cable light and flexible. The black thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) sheath resists abrasion, chemicals, UV radiation and temperature extremes.
The cable is 5.0 mm in diameter, compact enough to carry and deploy quickly. The armour adds protection without making the cable stiff, so it can be coiled on a reel and laid out by hand.
Stated features
- Five-layer armoured structure: steel ring armour, braid and aramid.
- Resistant to crushing, cutting, tension and rodent bites.
- Low attenuation for long-distance links.
- TPU jacket for outdoor and harsh environments.
- Available with LC, SC, ST and FC connectors.
G.657A fibre is the ITU-T bend-insensitive single-mode type, compatible with standard single-mode fibre. See single-mode vs multimode fibre for how it fits into a wider network.
Applications
- Field communication for military, emergency response and temporary networks.
- Outdoor events and broadcasting: concerts, sports events and live streaming. For camera links that also carry power, see the SMPTE hybrid cable guide.
- Industrial sites such as mining and oil and gas.
- Data centre and backbone links for enterprise and telecom networks.
- Outdoor and remote CCTV and surveillance.
What to specify in your quote
- Length, and whether you need it on a reel or drum.
- Connector at each end (LC, SC, ST or FC), and whether the ends should be fanned out or protected in a pulling sleeve.
- How many of the six fibres should be terminated.
- Any marking or labelling.

Questions buyers ask
What fibre does the 6-fibre tactical cable use?
Six tight-buffered G.657A single-mode fibres. G.657A is a bend-insensitive single-mode fibre that works with standard single-mode equipment.
How is the cable protected?
It has a stainless steel spiral armour tube, a braided layer, aramid tensile yarn and a black TPU outer sheath. Together these resist crushing, cutting, tension, rodents and abrasion.
What is the cable diameter?
5.0 mm.
Which connectors are available?
LC, SC, ST and FC. Each end can be specified separately to match the equipment.
Can the cable be used outside military and field work?
Yes. The same construction is used for outdoor event and broadcast links, mining and oil and gas sites, outdoor CCTV, and data centre or backbone links where a cable needs extra mechanical protection.
