Why outdoor links need a sealed connector
Outdoor fibre connections fail when rain, dust or extreme temperatures reach the joint. A loose connector or an exposed cable end lets moisture in, and signal strength drops over time. The ODC 2/4CH connector is designed for outdoor use: it is waterproof, sealed to IP67, and has a strong lock so the connection stays tight and stable.
In a fibre to the antenna (FTTA) design, fibre runs up the tower to a radio unit mounted near the antenna, in place of heavy coaxial feeder cable. The connector at the radio stays outdoors for its whole service life, in sun, rain and wind, which is the job the ODC connector is built for.
Stated features
The 2CH version carries two fibre lines and the 4CH carries four, which allows more parallel links through one connector.
Who uses ODC connectors
- Telecom companies and mobile tower operators.
- CCTV system installers.
- Defence communication teams.
- Remote internet providers.
- Railway stations and industrial areas where standard connectors cannot withstand the conditions.
For fully built outdoor links, see outdoor fibre optic cable assemblies.
What to specify in your quote
- 2CH or 4CH, and plug, receptacle or both.
- Fibre type: single-mode or multimode.
- Cable assemblies or loose connectors, and the length of each assembly.
- The other end of the link, for example LC or another connector at the equipment.
- Quantity.

Questions buyers ask
What is an ODC 2/4CH connector used for?
It connects fibre links outdoors, for example on mobile towers and in FTTA systems. Its sealed, weatherproof design and materials set it apart from standard indoor connectors.
What is the difference between 2CH and 4CH?
The 2CH version carries two fibre lines and the 4CH carries four. More channels allow more parallel links through one connector.
Are ODC connectors waterproof?
Yes. They are rated IP67 and tested for salt mist, vibration and shock.
Which networks use ODC connectors?
They are used on 3G, 4G and WiMAX base stations and in FTTA deployments, as well as CCTV, railway, defence and remote internet links where a connector sits outdoors.
Do you offer custom options?
Yes. Radix builds ODC connectors into custom cable assemblies to the customer's length and termination.
