In short

A medical fibre optic connector joins the thin fibres used in endoscopy, imaging and other medical optics to the instrument or light source. The Radix connector gives accurate light alignment, low signal loss and high return loss, and is made from easy-to-clean materials that can be sterilised and reused. It is small, strong and works with most standard fibre optic cables.

What medical fibre connectors do

Fibre optics are used in many medical procedures, including endoscopy and medical imaging, where thin, flexible cables carry light and images inside the body. The connector at the end of that cable has to align the fibre precisely every time it is plugged in, survive cleaning and sterilisation, and not become the weak point of the instrument. Poor fit, signal loss and difficult sterilisation are the usual problems with general-purpose connectors.

The Radix medical connector is designed for precise fit and efficient light transfer, with minimal signal loss. Between uses, inspect and clean the optical end face as well as sterilising the body, because residue on the fibre end reduces the light delivered to the instrument. The fibre connector types guide gives background on ferrule and connector designs.

Stated features

  • Very accurate light alignment.
  • Can be sterilised and reused.
  • Small and strong design.
  • Low signal loss and high return loss.
  • Works with most standard fibre optic cables.
  • Easy-to-clean materials, compatible with a wide range of medical tools.

Questions buyers ask

Are the medical fibre connectors reusable?

Yes. They are made from materials that are easy to clean and can be sterilised, so they can be reused in medical environments. Tell us your sterilisation method when you enquire.

Who uses these connectors?

Hospitals, clinics, diagnostic laboratories and medical device makers that need clean, consistent optical performance.

What are the key features?

Accurate light alignment, sterilisable and reusable construction, a compact and durable build, low signal loss and compatibility with most standard fibre optic cables.

Do the connectors work with standard fibre cables?

Yes. They work with most standard fibre optic cables. Give us the fibre type and core diameter so the connector bore and ferrule match your cable.

Can I get a custom medical connector?

Yes. Radix offers custom options for medical fibre connectors based on the instrument, fibre and sterilisation process.
