In short

An SMA fibre patch cable for laser sensors carries laser light from a source to a sensor or instrument through SMA905 connectors at both ends. The Radix cable is thin, has protective caps and an easy plug system, and is available with a stainless steel jacket that is tough and light-proof. It covers wavelengths from 250 nm to 2400 nm.

Why laser sensors need a dedicated patch cable

In laser sensing, a bent cable or a dusty connector lets light leak away, and the sensor reads wrongly. In high-precision laboratory work, the same problems corrupt data. A patch cable with SMA905 connectors on both ends gives a secure, direct path for the laser light into the sensor. The SMA905 connector is a threaded type widely used on spectrometers, lasers and optical instruments.

Stated features

The modular design makes it easy to fit into an existing setup and to swap cables.

Choosing the right fibre for your wavelength

The range runs from ultraviolet at 250 nm to near infrared at 2400 nm. In general, silica fibres are optimised for part of that band: high-OH fibre for ultraviolet and visible light, and low-OH fibre for the near infrared. Core diameter and numerical aperture also affect how much light reaches the sensor. State your wavelength band and source so the correct fibre is chosen. For high-power lasers, also state the power and whether the source is continuous or pulsed, as this affects the connector and termination choice. See the fibre connector types guide for how SMA compares with other connectors.

What to specify in your quote

  • Wavelength range and laser power.
  • Core diameter and numerical aperture, if known.
  • Length, jacket type and colour.
  • Quantity, and any other connector type needed at one end.

Questions buyers ask

Who uses SMA905 laser patch cables?

Scientists and engineers for laboratory experiments and laser testing, factory technicians for industrial laser sensors and quality checks, medical staff for optical equipment and scanners, and lighting designers for optical measuring tools and light show controls.

Can the cable handle harsh environments?

The stainless steel jacket option adds mechanical protection and blocks stray light, which suits challenging industrial and scientific settings.

What wavelengths does the cable support?

The range covers 250 nm to 2400 nm. Tell us your band so the right fibre type is used.

How easy is it to fit into an existing setup?

The modular design lets the cable fit into a current setup and be swapped without changing the rest of the optical path.

Do you offer custom options?

Yes. Radix makes custom cable lengths and connector types for laser applications, and can support the setup.

Send us your drawing.
